I want to thank all of you for your support of our blood drive Sunday. A special debt of gratitude goes to Brother Steve Pellei for wrangling volunteers (mostly his family) to help set up and break down the tables and chairs, for overseeing activities throughout the drive, and for sending special invitations to our neighboring Councils to signup donors – thank you Steve for your outstanding service which led to a fantastic blood drive!!!
According to the American Red Cross we collected 23 units of blood. This means we are able to touch up to 69 lives. We registered 28 total blood donors. We had one no-show, and several folks who were unable to donate on the day of the drive. We also had a few walk-ins, of which at least two could not donate due to the volume of preregistered donors – a good problem to have!
By my recollection, we have typically collected an average of 15 pints for our past blood drives. The most pints of blood we have ever collected is 31. By my estimation, any amount over 20 Pints has been considered a huge success. This is also the first time ever that we have had five beds for donors, which made a huge difference in our ability to be successful. That is due in large part to the space we have been able to utilize in Mother Presentation Hall. In coordination with St Bridget School, and principal Craft, we are fortunate to have been able to use the gymnasium for our blood drive. Without this space the event would not have been possible in today’s environment. We hope to be able to utilize MPH for future drives in order to grow our success.
That being said, we have an opportunity to volunteer at the school for their back-to-school night on September 2nd. It would be nice for us to help them in return for the kindness they have shown to us and our blood partners. Please consider helping if you are available next Thursday.

We have been asked to partner with St. Bridget school and we need volunteers. On September 2, Dr. Clift is holding an open house of the school for all the parents and parishioners and neighbors of St. Bridget parish. She is planning on serving a box lunch to all who attend and she estimates there may be 1500 people who will show up.
Our role is one of manpower. We are asked to help set-up, work with the school chef on preparing the boxed lunches and then distribute them to the attendees. This invitation to help is for all our brother Knights and their spouses (if they are willing to help also). The set-up will begin at 3:00 PM. The event will begin at 5:30 PM and food service will end at 7:00 PM. Clean-up may take until 8:00 PM.
I am looking for at least 10 – 15 volunteers to be available during the hours of 3:00 and 8:00 PM. If you cannot stay the entire time I will set up a schedule for the hours that you can donate. Please any amount is worthwhile. If you can only spend an hour or two we can put you to work. Even if you plan to attend the event yourself, you may be able to volunteer some time before or after touring the school. No amount of service is too small.
Please let me know if you can help, if you will have someone with you (spouse) who will help and the exact times you are willing to spend (ex. I can be available from 4:30 to 6:00). This will be very light work and if you have ever wondered how I can help, this is the project for you. I would also ask that we make the KofC presence known by wearing our council shirt and/or name badges.

I also want to acknowledge and thank Paul Amrhein for his contributions to our blood drive success. Paul has been an instrumental part of helping us organize and coordinate our blood drives for many years. He is getting ready to retire from St. Bridget as Director for Human Concerns and Pastoral Care, and I know how much I am going to miss having his help. May God bless you on your next journey!
