The Richmond Special Olympics Summer Games are almost here – Friday June 9 and Saturday June 10 on the campus of the University of Richmond at the Robins Center and the football stadium.
The Knights are asked to help on both days:
On Friday evening, from about 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, to handout programs and lightsticks and help direct people to their seats at the stadium.
On Saturday, from 9 AM until 3 PM, we help athletes, their families and caregivers by providing games – such as ring toss, corn hole, putting greens and other games for them to play when they are not competing.
We need your help on both Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 and Saturday on one of two shifts: 9 to noon and noon to 3. You ca n bring your families and enjoy the games while providing help to this most worthy of enterprises.
Send me an E Mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or call at 804-755-6203. Once I have your name and contact information I will send the list of volunteers specific information on parking, duties, times, food, report to, and so on.
This is a fun two day event and our contribution gives so much back to us.
Contact me as soon as you can so we can count on you . To those who have already volunteered, thank you and I will send you a confirming EM.
By the way, if you have access to a corn hole game and can bring it, that would be a huge help.

The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. and candidates must check in no later than 10:40 a.m. Attire for the ceremony is coat and tie and candidates should bring their current 2nd Degree membership card.
ny 2nd Degree Knight who wishes to advance to the 3rd Degree, or any other Knight wishing to attend as an observer, should contact me ASAP.
Fr Biber will be leaving the pastoral ministry here at St. Mary of the Annunciation and heading out to Lexington in the Shenandoah Valley. He will be offering catholic campus ministry, working with diocesan leadership, to some of the smaller colleges up and down the valley which don’t have any regular campus ministry.
We will celebrate his ‘retirement’ with a party the afternoon of Pentecost Sunday, June 4, from 4 – 7pm, at St. Mary of the Annunciation. We will begin with a Patriotic Rosary at 4:00 and serve food about 5:00. There will be music and games for the children. The parish is also putting together a scrapbook if you have any pictures that you would like to add.
I’m sending you this email to invite you and your councils to attend the celebration. I know Fr. Biber would be excited to see Knights from his former parishes. We are working on getting the Color Corps to participate in the Patriotic Rosary as well as members of the council. That will certainly be a great place for the Knights to come together with Fr. before the other festivities begin.
I’d appreciate it if you would let me know if you and others plan to attend. If you have any questions you can send me an email or call my mobile at 410-336-9100.
District 9 will be holding an Admissions Degree and Formation Degree on Thursday May 25 at the Church of Vietnamese Martyrs (12500 Patterson Avenue, Richmond 23238).
This degree will be hosted by council 14059 and the council 395 Admissions Degree team will be presenting the degree. Candidates for the Admissions Degree should plan to arrive by 6:30 PM and the dress code is jacket and tie.
The Formation Degree will be conducted immediately following the Admissions Degree. Those that will only be doing the Formation Degree should plan on arriving by 7:30 PM (or encouraged to attend the Admissions Degree to simplify things). We have several brothers who will be attending both degree ceremonies so if you are a First Degree Knight this is an excellent opportunity to advance to the 2nd Degree.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending.
The upcoming weekend is our opportunity to once again assist the food pantry of Catholic Charities by distributing food bags after the Mass you attend. As always, the bags will be in the back hallway closet, last door on the left if you need to replenish. I will help after the 7:30 Mass. Thanks again and in advance for your help!
We are all set for the blood drive Sunday 5/7/2017 at St Bridget Catholic Church; the team will arrive at about 7:30 to set up. Donations will begin at 8:30 AM and go until approximately 12:30 PM. Walk-ins are welcome!
So Far we have 13 people signed up online and we have sent postcards and email reminders to past donors.
We have had some heavy usage recently and our inventory is struggling. We have an urgent need for blood especially type O negative. Please spread the word.
If you like us on Facebook you will see messaging about our needs.
FYI….we talked about this at the Business Meeting on Monday….the dates for Special Olympics are June 9-10…..They are in need of volunteers. Contact Andy Cox to volunteer.
Andy, please put Bryan Witty and me down for the Friday afternoon Opening ceremonies seating slot.
I have not gotten any responses yet regarding volunteers for the Summer Games on 9-10 June. Please spread the word to your GKs so they can get word out to their members. We need volunteers to help on Friday night to seat people and on Saturday to host between event games (such as cornhole) for the athletes. Special Olympics are providing us with some games.
