Bishop has canceled Diocese of Richmond trips to the March for Life

Greeting All,

I received the forwarded email below from various sources.  Unfortunately, it appears the Bishop has had to cancel our Diocese of Richmond trips to the March for Life, including the Knights of Columbus buses.  Of course, individuals may choose to travel to and from the March themselves, but there will be no sponsored bus transportation.  If I receive different information before Friday morning I will try to let you know.  If you signed up a friend/family member when you put your name on the bus list, please ensure they know of the Bishop’s decision to cancel the sponsored trips.

All are asked to keep the March for Life in your prayers and your fasting on Friday.  Live coverage of the Vigil Mass from The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday on EWTN (I think the Mass begins at 6:30) and live coverage begins again with Mass from The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning, again on EWTN, with live coverage continuing throughout the day.

Thanks for signing up and let’s all commit to support the March for Life this year with our prayers and attendance via EWTN, and to go on the March for Life 2017.

Peace be with you.

MEN – “A Call to Battle”

Published on Jan 5, 2016
A Call to Battle – A Short Film on ‘Society’s Crisis in Masculinity’ (with Spanish subtitles)

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix released for the first time ever in its history a documentary-style short film that seeks to create awareness of a crisis in masculinity found in today’s society.

The short film, titled “A Call to Battle,” is available for viewing in English with Spanish subtitles at

Released only a few months after the promulgation of Bishop Olmsted’s apostolic exhortation “Into the Breach,” the new short film shows the urgency of the Diocese of Phoenix to confront head on today’s crisis in masculinity.

With regards to this crisis highlighted by the film, Michael Phelan, director of the Marriage and Respect Life Office said, “Historical circumstances have periodically devastated families, but we have never seen the disparagement of masculinity and fatherhood, or abandonment of men’s responsibilities that we are seeing now. It calls for an unprecedented response from the Church.”

Earlier this month Bishop Olmsted said in a statement, “I encourage our men to discover or rediscover their identity as men in Christ.”

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix was established Dec. 2, 1969, by Pope Paul VI. Led by the Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, more than 1.1 million Catholics make this diverse, vibrant and faith-filled diocese their home.
