March for Life on Friday, January 24, 2020

Greetings All,

It’s time to continue putting the list together for the March for Life on Friday, January 24, 2020.

This year we will again have the St. Edward’s bus stopping at the St. Bridget access road by the Middle School for pick-up at 8:30 a.m. as an additional option.  You would need to be at St. Bridget no later than 8:15 a.m. to leave time to check in.  To reserve a seat on that bus, please contact bus captain Tony Hackenburg directly at  Tony can also be contacted by phone or text at 804-339-0267.

If you would like spots reserved on the bus that departs from the Columbian Center, we will follow the routine of past years as far as departure time, etc.( meeting at 7:45 a.m. for an 8 a.m. departure from the Pump Rd. location, travel to the Pastoral Center to meet with the Southside bus, and depart DC at 4-4:30 p.m.).

This year, instead of emailing me, please  contact Darius, the bus captain for the Columbian Center bus, directly at . Darius can also be contacted at 804-740-9633 (home).   Darius, please let us know if you anticipate any substantive changes.

When signing up, please provide a mobile phone number and email address.

Please pass this information along to friends, parish groups, etc.  Please try to sign-up early, in the past we had a waiting list and had to scramble to get people on other buses.

Also, a Respect Life Holy Hour has been scheduled for January 21, 2020, at St. Bridget Church.  The tentative start time is 5:30 p.m.  Please stay tuned for further details, but save the date. The Holy Hour will be intended as a vigil of sorts for the March for Life and will include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Adoration.  Please make every effort to join the Church in prayer for the success of our pro-life efforts.

Any questions, please let me know.  Thanks and a Blessed Advent to you all.

Council 5476 Ultrasound Initiative Success

Dear Parishioners of Saint Bridget Church,

The Knights of Columbus (KofC) wish to share some wonderful news! The Jennifer Stivers Campaign to Save the Lives of the Most Vulnerable has reached the finish line!

Recently an order was placed for three new ultrasound machines for the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) of Metro Richmond, the leading provider of medical services to pregnant women who are considering terminating their pregnancies.

The ultrasound campaign was blessed from the start and certain to be successful!

  • The only goal of this initiative is to save the lives of unborn babies through the use of ultrasound technology. More than 80% of mothers who view an ultrasound image of their child will choose to deliver their baby.
  • This initiative honors the life of Jennifer Stivers. She loved the unborn, and many chose to honor Jennifer in a tangible way by generously contributing.
  • The initiative was strongly endorsed by our pastor, Monsignor Carr, who encouraged the Knights to move forward with his blessing. We also received the approval and support of Bishop Knestout and the Diocese of Richmond Center for Marriage, Family, and Life.
  • The Saint Bridget Knights of Columbus made this a core priority for 2019 and our brothers and Council were very generous in their financial support.
  • Our Saint Bridget parishioners also contributed generously to the initiative showing their strong support for mothers and their unborn babies.

The National Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Program matched the contributions from our parishioners and Knights dollar-for-dollar. This program has enabled the placement of over 1,000 machines across the nation to protect the unborn – now 1,003!

Fundraising was very successful. Including the matching funds from the National KofC, over $87,000 was raised, allowing the PRC to procure three new ultrasound machines, including placing one for its new medical center on the South Side of Richmond.

After the ultrasound machines are installed, Bishop Knestout and Monsignor Carr with bless them for their use in supporting the wonderful mission of the Pregnancy Resource Center.

Council 5476 of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Bridget Church thank all parishioners for your generosity! We are inspired by and deeply gratified to witness the commitment to life across our Saint Bridget Parish. All this was accomplished through the grace of God, who is all good!

Black Friday Solicitation for KOVAR Donations

Brother Knights from St Bridget Council 5476 make time to solicit donations for KOVAR on Black Friday after Thanksgiving.

“We had eight brothers worked 4 shifts at 3 stores and raised over $400 dollars for people with intellectual disabilities,” Said Bruce Slough, membership director, fundraiser,  and all around great guy.  “Our plan is to do it again on December 21; please come join us to help with this worthy cause!”

Please come to the member meeting on December 9th to learn more about KOVAR, and to volunteer to assist with the many other volunteer opportunities available to help give back to our church community!

Thanks Brothers!!!!
