Food drive success 8/28/2021

Brothers,

Thanks for coming out to help with the Food Drive this past Saturday.   Here are a couple of pics for another successful drive.  We collected a good amount of food and $380 in financial gifts.

Brothers that were able to assist:  John Bruckner, John VanderSyde, GK Bruce Slough, Bob Fout, Augie Keller, Mike Martin, Matt Costello, Mike Kozak, Ron Paquette, and Doug Lynch.  Special thanks to Brother Dan Geary for his help throughout and the generous use of his Lil’ Red Trailer!  We had some good fellowship and some good interaction with our parishioners.

Please note September 25th as the tentative date for the next Food Drive.

We sent the following thank you message to our parishioners:

Dear Parishioners,

Thank you once again for your generous contributions of food and gift cards this past weekend!  You have helped restock the Food Pantry at the Sacred Heart Center!  Our trailer was filled to the brim with nutritious food, diapers, toiletries and more!  Also, $380 in gift cards were donated to the Sacred Heart Center.

It is wonderful and heartening to see the generosity of so many parishioners who helped feed the hungry!  The Knights of Columbus thank the St. Bridget staff for helping to promote the food and items drive.  For your calendar, the next food drive will be on Saturday, September 25th for the Food Pantry at Commonwealth Catholic Charities.

We also invite parishioners to donate school supplies that will be shared with school children through both Commonwealth Catholic Charities and Blackwell Schools.  Please keep an eye out for the details!  Again, our deepest thanks to all of you!

Fraternally,

John

Support Mary’s Choice RVA

Brothers,

Please see the link below and scroll down to find information about the Gala to support Mary’s Choice RVA being held at the Lake House at St. Michael’s Church on Friday, October 1 @ 7:00 p.m.  This looks like a great opportunity to engage ourselves and our spouses in an event in keeping with our pro-life efforts.

Blood Drive Success 8/23/2021

Gentlemen –

I want to thank all of you for your support of our blood drive Sunday. A special debt of gratitude goes to Brother Steve Pellei for wrangling volunteers (mostly his family) to help set up and break down the tables and chairs, for overseeing activities throughout the drive, and for sending special invitations to our neighboring Councils to signup donors – thank you Steve for your outstanding service which led to a fantastic blood drive!!!

According to the American Red Cross we collected 23 units of blood. This means we are able to touch up to 69 lives. We registered 28 total blood donors. We had one no-show, and several folks who were unable to donate on the day of the drive. We also had a few walk-ins, of which at least two could not donate due to the volume of preregistered donors – a good problem to have!

By my recollection, we have typically collected an average of 15 pints for our past blood drives. The most pints of blood we have ever collected is 31. By my estimation, any amount over 20 Pints has been considered a huge success. This is also the first time ever that we have had five beds for donors, which made a huge difference in our ability to be successful. That is due in large part to the space we have been able to utilize in Mother Presentation Hall. In coordination with St Bridget School, and principal Craft, we are fortunate to have been able to use the gymnasium for our blood drive. Without this space the event would not have been possible in today’s environment. We hope to be able to utilize MPH for future drives in order to grow our success.

That being said, we have an opportunity to volunteer at the school for their back-to-school night on September 2nd. It would be nice for us to help them in return for the kindness they have shown to us and our blood partners. Please consider helping if you are available next Thursday.

Ron’s email from last week:

Brother Knights,

We have been asked to partner with St. Bridget school and we need volunteers.  On September 2, Dr. Clift is holding an open house of the school for all the parents and parishioners and neighbors of St. Bridget parish.  She is planning on serving a box lunch to all who attend and she estimates there may be 1500 people who will show up.

Our role is one of manpower.  We are asked to help set-up, work with the school chef on preparing the boxed lunches and then distribute them to the attendees.  This invitation to help is for all our brother Knights and their spouses (if they are willing to help also).  The set-up will begin at 3:00 PM.  The event will begin at 5:30 PM and food service will end at 7:00 PM.  Clean-up may take until 8:00 PM.

I am looking for at least 10 – 15 volunteers to be available during the hours of 3:00 and 8:00 PM.  If you cannot stay the entire time I will set up a schedule for the hours that you can donate.  Please any amount is worthwhile.  If you can only spend an hour or two we can put you to work.  Even if you plan to attend the event yourself, you may be able to volunteer some time before or after touring the school.  No amount of service is too small.

Please let me know if you can help,  if you will have someone with you (spouse) who will help and the exact times you are willing to spend (ex.  I can be available from 4:30  to 6:00).  This will be very light work and if you have ever wondered how I can help, this is the project for you.  I would also ask that we make the KofC presence known by wearing our council shirt and/or name badges.

RSVP to Ron Campbell at:  camp2130rjc@bellsout.net

I also want to acknowledge and thank Paul Amrhein for his contributions to our blood drive success. Paul has been an instrumental part of helping us organize and coordinate our blood drives for many years. He is getting ready to retire from St. Bridget as Director for Human Concerns and Pastoral Care, and I know how much I am going to miss having his help. May God bless you on your next journey!

Thank you again everyone for creating a wonderful outcome to our blood drive!

Fraternally, John

Kof C sponsored blood drive Aug. 22nd at 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM – in the gym

Our Blood Drive is approaching quickly, nearly one week away on 8/22. If you are in town and can give a pint, please register ASAP – see below.

If you cannot give blood but would like to volunteer to set up or break down – we arrive at Mother Presentation Hall at 7:30 AM to set up tables and chairs. We will then begin breaking down and sweeping up once the last donor has finished, and Red Cross starts packing up to leave. We already have some scheduled help scheduled, but email JOHN VANDERSYDE if you want to participate. You are welcome to stop by after mass to provide encouragement 😊

Here are a few key reminders and best practices to make your blood drive on Sunday, August 22, 2021 as successful as possible:

  1. Our goal for donation 18 pints – this is 54 lives potentially saved thanks to your efforts! Donors can continue to sign up through you, through the blood donor app, or online by going to www.redcrossblood.org and searching Bridget.
  2. Donors are reminded to access the newly released RapidPass. Rapidpass allows you to start the blood donation process from the comfort of your home or office and answer health history questions before you arrive at the blood drive location –this can shave 15-20 minutes off your donation time! RapidPass must be completed the day of the drive and can be found at www.redcross.org/RapidPass
  3. Donors should eat a good breakfast or lunch, drink plenty of water, and bring a picture ID with them to the drive.
  4. For help with online scheduling or logon information, please contact customer care at 1-855-210-1278 (or customercare@redcross.org) from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm ET to assist you.

Please attend Mass Friday for Fr McGivney

St. Bridget Knights,

Please try to attend Friday’s 8:00 am votive Mass for Fr. Michael McGivney. As you know, he is the founder of the Knights of Columbus. His beatification was last year and the first feast day is on Aug. 13, 2021. Our Pastor Fr. Ken has prepared the proper prayers for the celebration of the feast day.

Perhaps we can even sit together! Thank you for considering.

8/22 Blood Drive update

Dear Valued Blood Program Leader,

As the nation actively responds and navigates this evolving pandemic, we are all having to make difficult decisions to ensure our health and safety. In response to the CDC updated guidance, the American Red Cross has updated its pandemic safety protocols. Here’s what you need to know: All individuals at blood drives must wear a face mask regardless of vaccination status, effective Aug 9.

Safety is our priority; this update is due to nearly two-thirds of U.S. counties having high or substantial transmission of COVID-19 and cases are increasing with the Delta variant. The Red Cross recognizes that the current CDC guidance states that only areas of high or substantial transmission need to resume mask wearing. Transmission rates at the county level are constantly changing and our goal is to implement a single, organization-wide policy that is safe and consistent for our staff and members of the public who engage with our mission.

We understand that the resumption of mask wearing is frustrating and disappointing for many and appreciate your cooperation during this uncertain time. With this unfortunate turn in the pandemic, your blood drive leadership to support these mitigation measure to help ensure safety at your upcoming blood drives is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please review the Blood Program Leader alert or contact your Red Cross Account Manager.
Blood Inventory Update
The critical need for lifesaving blood continues this summer. Patients need the help of the American people – thank you again for your blood program partnership. It means so much to patients and their families – we couldn’t fulfill our lifesaving mission without you.
Sincerely,
Your American Red Cross
