Sunday – get to church o time

Sunday, November 4th at 2 AM is the official end to DST in our neck of the world.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. beginning in 2007, though Congress retained the right to revert to the 1986 law should the change prove unpopular or if energy savings are not significant. Going from 2007 forward, Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.

  • begins at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and
  • ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November

Daylight saving time (DST), also daylight savings time (United States), also summer time (United Kingdom and others), is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months so that evening daylight lasts longer, while sacrificing normal sunrise times.

Typically, regions that use daylight saving time adjust clocks forward one hour close to the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn to standard time.[1] In effect, DST causes a lost hour of sleep in the spring and an extra hour of sleep in the fall.[2]

Enjoy your extra hour of sleep this weekend – I hope it doesn’t mess with your internal clock the way that it does with mine!

St Bridget “Listening Sessions” with Monsignor Carr – In response to the Abuse Scandal

This week we will be offering four listening sessions.

WHEN:   September 5 and 6

TIME:   at 9am and 7pm each day

WHERE:   in the Church Hall

We want you to share your thoughts and ask questions

Amidst ongoing developments regarding sexual abuse in Pennsylvania and the Church, this is a time for openness and transparency. Importantly, this is also a time for our parishioners’ voices to be heard.

letter from Monsignor Carr

Good morning, Brothers.

Please find attached a letter from Monsignor Carr that outlines how St. Bridget Church and its clergy will be addressing the current tragic situation occurring within the Catholic Church.  The letter and its contents will be shared with our parishioners and published in the church bulletin.

Over the last week, Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, condemned the perpetrators and called for reforms within the Church.  In my opinion, it is a worthy read.  As leaders within the St. Bridget parish, our Knights Council should be there for our fellow parishioners, listening and sharing thoughts and prayers.

As such, I encourage you to attend at least one of Monsignor’s planned meetings in the Church Hall (Sept 5th and 6th at 9am and 7pm) and/or the Mass of Atonement (Sept 22nd at 9am).

 Bart Leahey, Grand Knight

St. Bridget Council 5476  |  Knights of Columbus

Dear Parishioners,

I am embarrassed and ashamed about the abuse of children and youth within the Church.  The one place where we should expect them to be safe was not safe for so many over the years.  The abuse leaves scars that persist through a person’s life.

The past should haunt the Church because the leadership cared more about the Churches’ face than the vulnerable ones whom Jesus loves so much. What do we do now, can our broken hearts be healed, can we find the words for those who ask us about this scandal?

I want you to hold me accountable for my behavior as your pastor.  I want you to hold accountable all the priests, deacons, pastoral staff and school staff who work here.  Keep your eyes open, question.  St. Bridget Parish and School must always be safe places for all.

This weekend and next I will speak about this during Masses.  Also, please meet with me to share your feelings and thoughts and to pray together.  I will meet you in the Church Hall on September 5 and 6 at 9am and 7pm.

We will hold a Holy Hour of Reparation after Daily Mass on Saturdays for the next three months beginning September 1st.  We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, prayers of lamentation, quiet meditation and Benediction.

We will celebrate a Mass of Atonement here on September 22 at 9am.

Monsignor Carr

membership incentives available for councils and individuals in Virginia

My Brother Knights of Virginia,

I wanted to follow up from the discussion at the Virginia State Council annual meeting about membership incentives available for councils and individuals in Virginia.  Below is a list of all membership incentives available.

  1.  At the annual meeting I announced that the Virginia State Council is running a membership incentive for May 2018.  For every new member recorded by Supreme in May 2018 the Virginia State Council will send a check in June 2018 for $4.00 per member recorded to each council who has new member(s) recorded.  Think of it this way, the Virginia State Council is going ahead and giving you the $4.00 Virginia per capita for next fraternal year for each of these new members.  In discussions with all three General Agents in Virginia they have agreed to also pay the council $4.00 per member recorded by Supreme in May 2018.  Wow that is $8.00 being paid for each new member recorded by Supreme in May 2018.  What a great time to recruit new members and get them through the Admissions Degree.
  2. Supreme is once again offering a $4.50 credit on per capita for all billable members for councils who achieve Star Council this fraternal year.  If your council is close or has a goal of Star Council this fraternal year now is the time for action.  Just think of the money your council could save and use towards charitable causes.
  3. The Virginia State Council is also running a contest among the District Deputies.  Those high performing districts in January and February 2018 have received money already.  Who is going to get money from the next payout?
  4. If you have not heard or passed this incentive along to your council members, Supreme has an incentive for recruiters.  Those members who have recruited new member(s) between November 15, 2017 and June 30, 2018 are going to be put into a drawing for one of 10 trips paid for by Supreme to the World meeting of Families in Dublin, Ireland in August 2018.  Now is the time to recruit a new member and get him to an Admissions Degree so you are eligible and could win this fantastic trip to Dublin.

If you have any questions on these incentives please don’t hesitate to ask your District Deputy, the State Membership Director, or myself and we will get you information quickly.

Fraternally, Steve

Stephen J. Kehoe
