This was received by PGK Dick Willig and was asked to pass along to the Council:
The McGuire Veteran’s Medical Center will hold a Stand Down for homeless veterans on Friday, November 15th. We have been invited as Knights of Columbus, by the Veteran’s Administration and the Blue Star Mothers, to assist in this endeavor. It is a huge undertaking including distribution of various items to veterans as well as screening for health issues and other needs. The event will take place on November 15th from 8 AM until noon. However, there is a primary need which we can fulfill by helping to set up for the event from 2:30 PM until 6 PM on Thursday, November 14th. Last year the Stand Down assisted some 500 veterans, either homeless or in dire need of help.
I encourage you to bring this to your council’s attention, soliciting volunteers as well as items for contribution. I will be happy to pick up any items donated, a list of which is included herewith. Items can also be brought to the multi-media room where the event will be held (Bingo room) on the 14th..
Please provide me with the names and contact for any Knight who will assist and their preferred day. Those working on Thursday will not be in direct contact with the veterans but are most in need. Assistance on Friday, after the event, is also needed to take down the tables, etc. from noon until 4 PM. Your attention and assistance is most appreciated.
